what is l-carnitine?

L-CARNITINE OVERVIEW

L-Carnitine is a compound derived from the amino acids lysine and methionine, which is necessary for the transport of fatty acids into the mitochondria. When this happens, fat is transformed into ATP in a process called beta-oxidation. This provides the tissues with energy allowing them to sustain their functions for a longer & sustained period.

DIFFERENT FORMS OF L-CARNITINE

There two main variations of L-carnitine that are found in within the supplement industry. These come in the forms of L-Carnitine Tartrate and Acetyl L-carnitine. Both these forms are classed as L-Carnitine, but both have very different effects on the body and its performance.

TARTRATE VS ACETYL

What is L-Carnitine Tartrate (LCLT)?

L-Carnitine Tartrate is the L-Carnitine base bonded to a molecule of Tartaric Acid. These two combined converts L-Carnitine to L-Carnitine Tartrate. The reason for this process is to aid and improve the absorption of the L-Carnitine substance. L-Carnitine Tartrate is now considered to be the biologically active form of L-Carnitine and stored in nearly every part of the body, predominantly the muscle cells.

The main benefits of L-Carnitine Tartrate include:

improved muscle endurance.

preserves storage of muscle glycogen.

prevents the build-up of lactic acid.

great for weight loss due to its ability to increase the mobilisation of fat.

Acts as a powerful Anti-oxidant.

What is Acetyl L-Carnitine (ALCAR)?

Now, this is where the things get interesting. Acetyl L-Carnitine (ALCAR) Is L-Carnitine bonded with an Acetyl group to each molecule. This changes its functionality and gives Acetyl L-Carnitine the extremely unique ability to cross the Blood Brain Barrier. Because of this unique ability it allows it to stay in the central nervous system (CNS), where its main effects of offering considerable nootropic and neuroprotective properties lie.

The main benefits of Acetyl L-Carnitine Include improved memory, reduced stress, fight off neuron degeneration throughout the brain and the nervous system, May act as a potent antioxidant, protecting against age related cell death throughout the brain

Fights Neuron Degeneration Throughout the Brian & Nervous System.

Supports Reduced Stress significantly.

May act as a Potent Antioxidant Protecting Against Age Related Cell Death Throughout the Brain.

Supports Improved Memory.

L-CARNITINE TARTRATE VS ACETYL L-CARNITINE

What’s best for you will be determined by the kind of bodily benefits you are looking for. Both are beneficial for the human body if used the right way, so it’s not fair to say that one is better than the other.

If your main goal is weight loss and better physical performance, then Pure L-Carnitine/L-Carnitine Tartrate is the better option for you. If your aim is to enhance the health & performance of your Brain/CNS then Acetyl L-Carnitine would be the better option.

Technically, you don’t have to choose one over the other. In fact, you can take both supplements in the same day without any potential health risk! Taking both may result to double effect, meaning you’ll get both the weight loss and Brain/CNS support benefits.

WHEN TO SUPPLEMENT

There is no specific time of day that has been proven to enhance effects, however should you choose to take both Pure L-Carnitine/L-Carnitine Tartrate & Acetyl L-Carnitine it is recommended that you take them at different times of the day.

When supplementing Acetyl L-Carnitine we recommend taking at evenly spaced intervals throughout the day to ensure you are providing a constant supply to the Brain/CNS.

When supplementing L-Carnitine Tartrate we recommend taking immediately after any high carbohydrate meal. This ensures you are maximising all its weight loss & performance enhancing properties.
