WHAT ARE GLUCOSE DISPOSAL AGENTS?
Glucose Disposal Agents (GDA’s) are one of the most overlooked supplements in the sports nutrition industry. This is because many do not understand the benefits and how to maximise their use.
The primary function of GDA’s is to help regulate blood sugar levels, driving more glucose to muscle cells and not fat cells where it can be converted to body fat.
WHY TAKE GLUCOSE DISPOSAL AGENTS?
The reason to take GDA’s is down to the way they act as insulin and focus on shuttling glucose into the muscle cells and keeping glucose away from the fat cells. This therefore ensures all glucose is focussed on increasing muscle gains and decreasing fat gains.
WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR...
When choosing a GDA’s there are fundamental/essential ingredients you should be on the lookout for to ensure you are providing your body with the highest quality GDA. Chances are you have never come across these ingredients and what they do. To give you an understanding here is a full breakdown of which essential ingredients that no GDA should be without.
Berberine is a bioactive compound that can be extracted from several different plants. Many studies show that berberine can significantly reduce blood sugar levels.
It also works on different mechanisms such as decreasing insulin resistance, Increases glycolysis, helping the body break down sugars inside cells, decreasing sugar production in the liver, slows the breakdown of carbohydrates in the gut and increases the number of beneficial bacteria in the gut.
Two further studies have examined the effects on body weight. In a 12-week study individuals that took Berberine three times per day resulted in about 5lbs of weight loss on average and also lost about 3.6% of their body fat
Banaba known scientifically as Lagerstroemia has been used for thousands of years as a treatment for digestive problems, kidney inflammation and diabetes. Banaba is probably best known and certainly most commonly used for its ability to keep blood sugar levels under control. Banaba leaves contain a compound called corosolic acid, which has been identified as one of the main agents for Banaba's glucose lowering effect and ability to regulate blood sugar. Some studies show that the effects are very fast and can help reduce blood sugars in as little as 60 to 90 minutes.
One very interesting potential side effect of the blood sugar control offered by Banaba leaf is that it may help shed some weight or at least help keep it under control. Studies into the blood sugar level effects of the herb have also consistently revealed that taking Banaba resulted in steady weight loss of around 2 to 4 pounds a month.
ALPHA LIPOIC ACID
The Key function of Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) is to enhance energy metabolism and improve insulin release by decreasing blood glucose levels. ALA aids the conversion of sugar into energy, therefore improving blood sugar metabolism and insulin sensitivity. ALA also helps to store the carbohydrates you eat in muscle cells rather than fat cells, this results in an increased rate of muscle growth and weight loss.
Cinnamon Extract has a variety of benefits by providing similar effects on insulin signalling and glucose control due to the Naturally occurring compounds Cr and polyphenols found in cinnamon. These compounds have shown to improve insulin sensitivity, lower blood sugar by acting like insulin and increasing insulin's ability to move blood sugar into cells.
HOW TO SUPPLEMENT GDA's
GDAs can be taken almost any time that a large amount of Carbohydrates is consumed. We recommend taking GDA’s 15-20 minutes prior to consuming over 50g – 100g of carbohydrates.
WHY REDCON1 RPG?
Not only does contain all the fundamental ingredients (Berberine, Banaba Leaf, Cinnamon Extract, Alpha Lipoic Acid) in all the clinical dosages that make a great GDA, but Redcon1 have taken it one step further and put their own twist on the genre. This takes it from your standard GDA to a must have.
